After Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks capped their perfect season with a national championship win, they received love from musical artists such as Beyoncé, who sent Staley a congratulatory package.
But throughout the Gamecocks' season, Staley and South Carolina had another die-hard fan -- rapper Plies. And he might've just had one of the most significant moments of his career thanks to the WNBA legend.
On Friday, during Plies' show in Columbia, South Carolina, with rapper GloRilla "and friends," Staley made a surprise appearance on stage with the rapper.
Plies brought Staley on stage while performing his hit song, "Bust It Baby," which he released in 2008 with recording artist Ne-Yo.
Staley was nowhere near afraid of the moment. She walked out onstage and began to dance to the number before joining the rapper to hype the crowd up to the hit song.
Plies has been an avid supporter of South Carolina basketball. The rapper attended the NCAA Final Four in Cleveland, Ohio, to cheer on the championship-bound Gamecocks. Leading up to his concert in Columbia on May 10, he expressed that he wanted to "roll the red carpet" for the Gamecocks.
He also showed love to former Gamecocks star and now-Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso when she was drafted as the No. 3 pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, writing, "Y'all have a new fan in me."
Staley became the first Black coach in Division I college basketball to complete an undefeated season, going 38-0 with a win over the Iowa Hawkeyes in the national championship game.
